ACC to send team to Canada

The Anti-Corruption Commission will send a team to observe the trial process of a Canadian court trying three Canadians reportedly involved in Padma bridge graft allegation.
ACC sources said the team consisting of ACC's legal adviser advocate Anisul Haque and its Deputy Director Mirza Zahidul Alam was scheduled to stay in Canada for 12 days. The team will fly in a day or two after receiving Canadian visa.
The team was tasked with observing the hearing as well as gives an effort to interrogate the trio -- former officials of Canadian company, SNC Lavalin, Ramesh Shah, Mohammad Ismail and Kevin Wales -- to complete the ongoing investigation in Padma bridge graft allegation case, they said.
The hearing of the case will be started today and be continued till April 19.
ACC Chairman Ghulam Rahman said although the commission was yet to get any reply from Canadian attorney general's office regarding MLAR [Mutual Legal Assistant Request], it unilaterally decided to send the team.
Office of Bangladesh's attorney general wrote to its Canadian counterpart requesting sharing information about the trio after filing of the case.
On December 17 last year, the ACC filed the case with Banani Police Station against seven persons including the trio.
The ACC has nearly completed the investigation of the case in Bangladesh part.
