SPOTLIGHT

A day in the night sky

Sky Did the night sky always charm you? Have you always dreamt of losing yourself in the world of Hercules and Scorpius? The night sky is a magical thing; years ago it led Vasco da Gama through the mighty seas, helped Galileo revolutionise scientific theories and throughout time aided many romantics to compare their loves to the mighty moon. If you are one of those fanatics who has been found lost on the rooftop time and again gazing at the stars, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre is the perfect outing for you on a Saturday evening. Opened in 2004, the Novo Theatre has long been hosting programmes and shows that introduces astronomy to the masses in a very approachable manner. The Planetarium dome simulate Earth and its cool blue sky, lending a three-dimensional edge to the place. Find yourself moving in the cosmos and into the journey to infinity in the morning show conducted by the planetarium. Or be moved and find your patriotic side as you listen to Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman`s 7 March speech in 'Aei amader Bangladesh.' You can also decide to take a look at the Grand Canyon show as it describes North America`s settlement clan, Garikhad, which existed in The Grand Canyon four thousand years ago. The day does not have to end here because Novo Theatre has another thrill to offer; a Ride Simulator which is the combination of music, video and movement which mimics a real ride and lures the brain into believing it is an actual journey! The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre was launched with the mission to educate the masses via entertainment and they have been doing so thus far. Take a day off and head over to the planetarium and find yourself coming out knowing your stars from planets, the difference between solar and lunar eclipse and the rich history of astronomical sciences. The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre is located at Bijoy Sharani Tejgaon with tickets costing Tk.50 and weekly holiday falling on Wednesdays.
