40 Shibir men held in Ctg

Law enforcers detained 40 activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, from Panchlaish area of Chittagong Saturday noon.

The detention was made in connection with different cases filed for carrying out destructive and subversive activities in different time in the port city, reported our correspondent quoting Shah Abdur Rouf, assistant commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (Panchlaish Zone).

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Panchlaish police and Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a raid at King of Chittagong Community Centre around 12:45pm and picked up the Shibir men, the police official said.

The Shibir men were conferring awards to a group of students who obtained GPA-5 in SSC examinations in the city.

'Probaho', a local pro-Shibir coaching centre, organised the reception party.

All the detainees were taken to Panchlaish Police Station for primary interrogation, the police official added.
