2 jailed for life for murder, another for rape

Two siblings were jailed for life for murder while a youth got similar punishment for rape of a physically challenged girl yesterday.
A Mymensingh court yesterday punished two brothers in 'Quiyyum murder case' in Tarakanda under Phulpur upazila yesterday.
The court also fined each of them Tk 30 thousand, in default, to suffer six months more in prison, reports our correspondent.
The convicts are Daulat Ali and Awlad Ali, sons of late Gul-e-Hossain.
According to the case story, Quiyyum at village Rangerkanda under Tarakanda police station in Phulpur upazila had an enmity with his neighbour Daulat Ali over a piece of land for long.
When Quiyyum along with his men went to the disputed land on July 14, 2007, Daulat Ali with his supporters rushed to the spot, triggering a clash between the two groups.
At one stage of the clash, Quiyyum was attacked with sharp weapons by his rivals.
Critically injured, he succumbed on the way to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.
In Pabna, a court sentenced a youth to life term jail yesterday for violating a physically challenged girl in Ishwardi upazila in 2006, reports our correspondent.
Convict Mazaharul Islam Mintu, 32, is son of late Azaharul Islam of Fateh Mohammadpur village.
According to the case story, Mintu raped a speech impaired girl of the same village on January 19, 2006. At that time she was alone at her house. Victim's father filed a case with Ihswardi police station accusing him on the same day.
The investigation officer in the case submitted the charge on February 24, 2006.
After examining 16 out of 18 witnesses, the court pronounced the verdict in the court room yesterday noon.
