Car stolen in capital

Carjackers took away a trader's private car parked outside the Army Stadium in the capital's Banani early yesterday.
The car owner Monirul Islam Masud along with his family members was enjoying Bengal Classical Music Festival inside the stadium.
Around 2:30am, he did not find the vehicle of Toyota Allion brand (Dhaka Metro Ga 21-5645), which was parked along with several hundred cars.
Masud filed a general diary with Banani Police Station in this connection.

 

Man jailed for sexual harassment

A Chittagong mobile court yesterday sentenced a 43-year-old man to six months' imprisonment for sexually harassing an 18-year-old girl in EPZ area of Chittagong city.
Md Motaleb, of Pabna is a resident of Labour Colony Gate area under EPZ Police Station. He had been stalking the girl on her way to work for last few days and yesterday he embraced her before New Mooring Madrasa, said EPZ police.

 

Man dies as train hits him

A man died as a train hit him at Naruli in Bogra town on Thursday evening.
Jogrul Rashid, 68, of Bogra town, a freedom fighter and a businessman, was crossing rail tracks when Rangpur Express intercity train hit him.
The body was sent to Shaheed Zaiur Rahman Medical College and Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

 

3-day photo exhibition begins

A three-day exhibition titled “My Soil, My Soul” featuring photographs of the culture and heritage of the people living in Chittagong and its hill tracts began yesterday at Zainul Abedin Art Gallery in District Shilpokala Academy of the port city.
Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chittagong Somnath Halder inaugurated the exhibition which is being organised by Chittagong Photo Journalist Association and will later travel to Kathmandu, Kolkata and Dhaka.

 

Fires gut house, shops in Ctg

A house and four shops were gutted in separate fire incidents in Chittagong city in last two days.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit yesterday and gutted four tin-roofed shops of crockery, plastic items and shoes, inflicting a damage of Tk 1 lakh at Kalsidighirpar, said fire service sources.
In Shulokbahar area, a fire originating from a gas oven gutted a tin-roofed house, causing a  damage of Tk 5 lakh, said fire officials.

 

Three jailed for peddling Yaba pills

A mobile court in Chittagong city yesterday sentenced three men to different jail terms after they were held with different amount of Yaba pills, numbering from 10 to 21, in Bakalia area.
Md Selim, of Bakalia, got one and a half years' imprisonment for trading Yaba pills while Iqbal Hossain, of Bayezid, and Jahangir Hira, of Panchlaish, got one year each for taking the contraband pills.

 

Southeast University signs MoU with Kasem Bundit University

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Southeast University and Kasem Bundit University, Thailand at the former's conference room on November 24 in Banani, Dhaka.
Southeast University pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Md Humayun Kabir Chowdhury and KBU Vice President for Administrative Affairs Dr Suwat Suwandee signed the MoU, says a press release.
Under the MoU, there will be faculty and student exchange, and joint research between the two universities.

 

Job fair begins at RU today

A two-day job fair titled "2nd City Bank-RUCC Job Fair 2014" will begin today on Rajshahi University campus.
Around 20 companies will participate in the fair jointly organised by Rajshahi University Carrier Club and City Bank with The Daily Star as the media partner.
About 15 seminars will from 9:00am to 5:00pm in Nazrul Islam Auditorium and Dean's Complex Conference Room.
