Maritime Forum formed to deal with common issues

Six Bangladeshi maritime organisations have recently formed “The Maritime Forum” to deal with common issues of the maritime industry like training and employment of Bangladeshi seafarers, says a press release.
Yesterday the forum, comprising Alumni Association of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Association of Maritime Training Institutions of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers' Association (BMMOA), Bangladesh Ship Manning Agents Association, Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, and The Nautical Institute Bangladesh held their third meeting at Western Marine's Office in Chittagong.
BMMOA's president has been selected as the first convener of the forum for two years.

Stabbed man dies in Ctg

A man died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital yesterday a day after he had been stabbed allegedly by a borrower following a dispute over money in the city's Agrabad.
After the death of Md Jalal, of Brahmanbaria, police arrested the alleged killer, Md Jahir.
Jahir owes some money to Jalal and his friend Shubho, Champok Barua, sub-inspector of Double Mooring Police Station, quoted locals as saying.
Jahir stabbed Jalal as he forced him to repay the money immediately.

Woman found dead in house in Ashulia

Police yesterday afternoon recovered the body of a garment worker, who was found burnt in her house at Polashbari in Ashulia outside the capital.
Shahida Akter, 30, of Faridpur, was an operator of Anzir Apparels Ltd-1 in the area.
Md Rakibul Islam, sub-inspector of Ashulia police, said they could not ascertain whether she committed suicide or somebody burnt her to death in the mess, adding that they were investigating the matter.

Worker dies falling from building in Barisal

A construction worker died after falling from the sixth floor of an under-construction building in Barisal city's Rupatali yesterday noon.
The victim was Saddam Hossain, 26, son of Habibur Rahman, of Nilphamari.
Rahidul Islam, his nephew, said Saddam fell down while he was working.
He was declared dead at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

 

Seminar on scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose held at DU

A seminar on Jagadish Chandra Bose was held at Dhaka University yesterday, marking the birth and death anniversary of the eminent scientist.
The Centre for Advanced Studies and Research in Biological Sciences organised the event at the Senate Bhaban.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the programme as chief guest.
Sir Bose was born in Bikrampur on November 30, 1858 and died on November 23, 1937 in India.
