Samajtantrik Chhatra Front's JU unit GS steps down

Samajtantrik Chhatra Front General Secretary of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit, Dheman Mallick, yesterday announced his resignation from the post, claiming that there was no democracy in the progressive student organisation.   
At a press conference on the campus, he alleged Moytri Barman, JU unit convener of the student organisation, had been leading the party in an autocratic way, and that there had been no committee since 2012. Contacted, Moytri brushed aside the allegations, and said she was yet to get the resignation letter.

Man found dead in Ctg

Police recovered the decomposed body of a man from the foot hill in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong early yesterday.
Mojiullah, 50, of the upazila used to guard some trees on the hill that he had planted earlier.
Police primarily suspect that he fell from the hill and died two to three days back.
The body bore some scratch marks, said police.

One dies from electrocution in Ctg

A driver of a battery-run rickshaw died after being electrocuted in Chittagong city's Bakalia area yesterday.
The deceased was Dil Mohammed, 35, of Ishaker Pol in Bakalia.
To recharge the battery of his vehicle, he connected the plug to an electric socket at a garage around 4:50am and got electrocuted, said the victim's wife Hasina Akther.
Dil was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, said CMCH police.

DU, Robi sign MoU to set up electronic library

Dhaka University yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Robi Axiata Ltd, a telecom company, to set up an electronic library at the university's business studies faculty.
The library will offer student access to the libraries of different universities around the world.
Under the MoU, Robi will provide computers and wi-fi technology to develop the library.
Following the signing ceremony, DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique and Robi Chief Operating Officer Mahatabuddin Ahmed addressed a press conference at former's office.

Worker dies from toxic gas inhalation in septic tank in Ctg

A worker died and another was injured because of toxic gas inhalation while cleaning a septic tank of an under-construction building in Sanwara Residential area at Chandgaon of Chittagong city yesterday.
The deceased was Md Shohel, 28, of Barisal. Kabir was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said police.

Four unhygienic bakeries fined in Chittagong

Chittagong district administration fined four bakeries Tk 95,000 for manufacturing food in an unhygienic condition in Madarbari area of Chittagong city yesterday.
Master Bakery was fined Tk 10,000; Chattala Bakery Tk 20,000; Mosharraf Bakery Tk 50,000; and Hazi Bakery Tk 15,000.

New AKDN  representative presents credentials to FM

The newly appointed The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Resident Representative to Bangladesh Munir M Merali presented his credentials to Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at the ministry yesterday.
Prior to this appointment, Merali served as AKDN resident representative to Tajikistan and as the CEO of Aga Khan Foundation in Islamabad.
