Nine plays by Abdullah Al Mamun at birth anniversary celebration

Theatre and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) are jointly organising an eight-day programme to commemorate Abdullah Al Mamun's birth anniversary, says a press release. Mamun passed away on August 21 last year.
The festival will be held from July 10 to 17 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The detailed programme of the festival was revealed at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity yesterday. Ramendu Majumdar, director of Theatre; Kamal Lohani, director general, BSA; Golam Sarwar, deputy director of Drama, BSA and Tropa Majumdar of Theatre spoke at the conference.
Nine plays written by Mamun will be staged throughout the festival at the National Theatre Hall every evening at 7:30pm. The plays are -- "Spordha," "Meraj Fakirer Ma" and "Mike Master" (all produced by Theatre); "Ekhon Dusshomoy" (produced by Nagrorik and directed by Atatur Rahman); "Shopoth" (produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and directed by Arif Haidar); "Bibishab" (produced by Palakar and directed by Aminur Rahman Mukul); "Shenapoti" (produced by Centre for Asian Theatre and directed by Ahsan Reza Khan); "Shubochon Nirbashone" (produced by Rupankar and directed by Nadejda Farzana Mousumi) and "Tritiyo Purush" (produced by Dhaka University Theatre Depart-ment and directed by Abul Bashar M. Ziaul Haq Bhuian).
Full-length feature films, documentaries and video plays made by Mamun and new documentaries on the late playwright will also be screened during the festival. The films are "Sareng Bou," "Dui Jibon" and "Ekhoni Shomoy." These will be screened at the Studio Theatre every afternoon at 5 pm.
There will be two seminars at the Seminar Room of the National Theatre Stage on July 11 at 6 pm and July 17 at 11 am.
An exhibition of photographs, books, manuscripts and personal articles of Abdullah Al Mamun will be arranged at the foyer of National Theatre Stage.
The festival will be open on July 10 at 6:30 pm by the grandchildren of Mamun in presence of National Professor Kabir Chowdhury and leading theatre personalities.
