It was an arranged marriage for popular TV actress Aupi Karim. Aupi tied the knot with Dr. Asir Ahmed, a computer engineer living in Japan. According to sources, Dr. Ahmed had approached Aupi's family in 2002. Aupi, however, wanted to complete her graduation first. The actress was not eager to marry anyone from the media, so it seemed like a good match. Though the wedding took five years to materialise, the groom seemed to have made up his mind about marrying the woman of his dreams.
The wedding was held in an informal gathering on October 26, at the residence of the bride's parents. On the occasion, the groom was finally able to place the platinum ring he had bought for Aupi way back in 2002, on her finger. The formal reception is due in December, says a reliable source.
Dr. Asir Ahmed is an associate professor of Computer Science and Communications Engineering in Kyushu University of Japan. He is also a Project Manager of Grameen Communication's Global Communication Centre. Both Aupi and Ahmed are former students of BUET. Ahmed went to Japan for higher studies on a Monbukagakusho (Moanbushu) Scholarship.
The groom visits the country every month and has plans to move back to Bangladesh for good in the near future.
