AL bigwigs bin Jalil outburst

Both the government and the Awami League top brass are aggrieved with Tuesday's statements by AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil that there are many "paid DGFI agents" in the cabinet.
They trashed his allegations and said his statement is nothing but the expression of a "frustrated person".
Insiders say the AL Central Working Committee would sit for a decision in this regard immediately after Prime Minister and party chief Sheikh Hasina returns from Saudi Arabia.
At that meeting, Jalil might be issued a show cause notice as to why he would not be punished for the statements, comments a source close to Hasina. He adds Jalil should have raised those issues at the party forum before speaking to the press.
Jalil on Tuesday made the allegations at his Mercantile Bank office in the capital. He also accused that AL presidium members Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed and Suranjit Sengupta "worked for the intelligence agency in attempts to have the Awami League minus Hasina".
Talking to reporters at his Eskaton residence Amu said none but Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) itself and its agents know about the "agents". He claims he didn't make any reform proposal after the 1/11 changeover aiming to minus Hasina.
Suranjit on the other hand said he is not angry with Jalil, who he mentioned as a close friend.
"Abdul Jalil is my close friend. He is now disgruntled. So I'm not angry with him for his statements," Suranjit told reporters at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
In reply to a query, he said Jalil is facing a "problem" related to his party post, adding the "problem" will be solved as soon as possible.
AL Joint General Secretary Obaidul Quader said what Jalil said could have been discussed at the party forum if he raised the matters there.
Asked, Commerce Minister Col (retd) Faruk Khan said Jalil should name the "DGFI agents" if he knows them.
It is nothing but a frustrated statement from a "frustrated" person, he added.
Faruk Khan, AL commerce and industries affairs secretary, said, "I feel very sorry to see that he [Jalil] is very frustrated. I request him to overcome frustration and get involved with positive politics."
Jalil's "frustration" about the party would be resolved at the party forum, he said.
Speaking anonymously, another minister said Jalil should have informed the premier if he has any specific evidence about the matter. "As a party leader he should have raised those issues at the party form first."
State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan termed the statement personal.
He said party reaction would come in due time in this regard. On the "paid DGFI agents" Mannan, who is also the AL office secretary, said it would be better if those accused by Jalil gave their reaction.
State Minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj said: "Everyone has their personal opinion and they can express when there is democracy in the country. Everyone has the right of freedom of speech, which has been ensured by our constitution. We can express our opinions anytime. But there is no rule that those will be true."
