Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Shammilan ‘09 ends

The three-day Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Shammilan '09 by Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Shammilan Parishad (JRSSP) at Central Public Library, Shahbagh ended on March 22.
On closing day, the programme began at 9:30 am with placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar; members of the organisation rendered "Amar bhai-er roktey rangano Ekushey February" and the National Anthem.
The evening session started at 5:30 pm with a prize-giving programme. Winners of the nationwide contest on Rabindra Sangeet by JRSSP were awarded at the programme. A short discussion was also part of the event.
Tabla artiste from Mymensingh Pabitra Mohan Dey was honoured by the organisation. Professor Harun-ur-Rashid was present as the chief guest. Professor Zillur Rahman Siddiqui presided over the session. Bulbul Islam, general secretary of JRSSP delivered the formal vote of thanks.
The cultural programme opened with a solo rendition of the Tagore song “Mon jey boley chini chini” by Fahim Hossain Chowdhury. Next Priyanka Gope sang “Din oboshan holo.” Mamun Zahid Khan performed “Ei udashi hawa-e pathey pathey” and Chanchal Khan rendered “Praney khushir tufaan utheychhey.” Other artistes who performed were Shanchita Ghosh, Shimu Rani Dey, Farzana Rahman, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Anup Bhattacharya and others.
Pragna Laboni recited “Sharthok Jonom Amar” and “Abhishar.”
A group dance performance of 'Mohiniyattam' (a Keralite classical dance) was the highlight of the programme. The performance was directed by danseuse Pallavi Krishnan.
The festival continued well into the night. A total of 40 noted and upcoming artistes from all over country performed on the concluding day. An annual event by JRSSP, this year's Rabindra Sangeet Shammilan (convention) was the 28th arrangement by the organisation. Around 300 Tagore artistes participated at the three-day event. Next year the festival will be held in Jessore.
