Naumi: A young talent on the rise


Zarin Tasnim Naumi, a 12-year-old, has revealed her musical talent in full measure. She has been the winner of 11 national awards since 2004. A student of class eight in Mymensingh Cantonment Public School and College, Naumi began to take part in competitions through TV talent hunt programme, Nutunkuri in 2004. She also won the National Primary Education Week award the same year.
Naumi later wrested the prestigious Padmakuri award in 2005. She was also the proud recipient of the Padmakuri award of Baishakhi TV Channel in 2007.
And that's not all. Naumi earned many more accolades as a winner of many other competitions: the National Child award in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Naumi has so far received over 50 awards, among them the Sheba Gold Padak for her brilliant performance in five items, including Nazrul and Tagore song competition in 2008. This event was held to mark the 6th Sheba Utsab.
Naumi is the daughter of Mohammad Lutfur Rahman and Shahanara Begum, assistant registrar and deputy controller respectively of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).
Naumi continued her music education from 2004 to 2008 under eminent artiste Masud Karim of Mymensingh Zila Shilpakala Academy. In the meantime Naumi completed her four year long course from Zila Shilpakala Academy.
Now Naumi is busy with lessons in classical music under the aegis of classical maestro Ustad Sunil Dhar. Naumi is also being trained by Ustad Shamsul Islam for her rhythmic grasp of the tabla.
