Ex-BNP lawmaker Shafi Chowdhury acquitted

Former BNP lawmaker Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury has been acquitted of the charges of misappropriation of relief goods including CI sheets and other things.
Sylhet Speedy Trial Magistrate Devjit Sinha acquitted Shafi and another accused Selim Ahmed yesterday.
While passing the judgment in the much-talked-about graft case, the magistrate said allegations brought against them by the state could not be proved through witnesses and relevant documents.
Selim is an employee of the Pubali Bank Limited and a neighbour at Shafi Chowdhury's village home at Daudpur.
Argument in the case was held on October 6.
Earlier cross-examination of 28 prosecution witnesses was completed on October 3.
Sub-Inspector Tarequzzaman of Dakshin Surma Police Station filed the misappropriation case against them after the joint forces men recovered huge relief materials including CI sheets, biscuits and other things from his village home on the night following February 17.
