Probe report on train tragedy likely today

The enquiry committee, headed by Joypurhat Additional District Magistrate Setara Begum, is likely to submit today its report on Tuesday's rail accident in Joypurhat that left 13 people killed.
Besides, Roads and Railways Department formed a three-member committee headed by its Deputy Secretary (rail communication) M Shamsul Kibria and asked to submit its report within five days.
Bangladesh Railway has also formed two other committees and ordered to submit reports by two days.
Railway sources said the family members of those killed in the tragic accident would not get any compensation, as the deceased passengers did not have railway tickets.
According to the British era law, the family members of a rail passenger will get highest compensation of Tk 10,000 if the passenger holding a valid ticket died in train accident. The person who got injuries in rail accident will get smaller amounts.
Railway Western Zone Division Commercial Manager Ashok Kumar Dey said none of the deceased in Tuesday's train-truck collision had ticket according to the information they have received so far.
If the government does not consider the case of Arif, 7, who was killed in the accident as a special case family members of none will get any compensation. Arif and his family members, after starving for several days, were going to Santahar in Bogra from Peerganj in Rangpur in search of work.
Arif's mother Ajiron admitted that they could not buy train ticket, as they did not have money. She said she along with Arif was travelling on the engine of the train while her husband Sirajul Islam along with another son took seats inside a compartment.
As per rule, if any accident occurs at an unprotected level crossing the railway will not take the responsibility as written warning is posted at the level crossings. So the owner of the truck involved in the accident would not get any compensation.
Officer of the Railway Engineering Department Gyanendra Nath Bhowmik filed a case with Santahar Railway thana accusing the unidentified truck driver of Tuesday's accident.
