ACC asks President's Office to take action

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the President's Office to take necessary action regarding the allegations of financial and organisational irregularities against Chief National Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts Mohammad Fazlur Rahman and others.
According to a letter sent by the ACC to the secretary of Public Division, President's Office, Bangabhaban, the allegations were that the Chief National Commissioner opened accounts violating the constitution of the organisation, forged cheque, spent unapproved money and embezzled project money.
Bangladesh Scouts former national commissioner Afzal Hossain, former national deputy commissioners Prof Dr Nizam Uddin Ahmed and Mesbah Uddin Bhuiyan and Leader Trainer Jamil Ahmed lodged the complaints with the ACC on May 27 this year.
The other allegations include disbursing loans from a Scouts project titled POETS (Promotion of Environment Education and Friendly Practice Through Scouts), collecting donation without authorisation and misappropriating it, patronising corrupt people within Scouts and professional irregularities, the letter said.
ACC Deputy Director (greater Dhaka) Jiban Krishna Roy signed the letter dated August 7, 2007.
"Most of the allegations are linked to the violation of the constitution of Bangladesh Scouts. However, the allegations of cheque forgery and anti-state conspiracy are not under the purview of the commission (ACC)," the letter said, asking the secretary of Public Division, President's Office, to take necessary action in this regard.
When contacted, Chief National Commissioner Mohammad Fazlur Rahman declined to make any comments on the allegations.
He, however, said, "We welcome investigations if there are any complaints."
