DU and greetings spree

I would like to thank The Daily Star for its timely editorial entitled "Greeting Spree in DU" on January 26.
DU teachers have a glorious legacy of guiding the nation in times of crisis. But it is outrageous that a good number of teachers of DU are oblivious of their foremost duty. When I was a student of DU, during periods of unscheduled closure due to political clashes, I used to wonder why our beloved and respected teachers could not agree to take necessary steps to break the stalemate so that their students suffered a little less from session jams. Ironically, though, when a political figure like Tarique Zia was imprisoned on charges of corruption, they did not hesitate to issue a statement demanding his unconditional release.
Our respected DU teachers should bear in mind that it is their work and devotion to their students, not their academic position or political affiliation, that matter most to the country.
