Human chain protesting demolition of poet Kamini Roy’s home

Locals formed a human chain last Thursday in front of Ashwini Kumar Town Hall in Barisal, protesting the demolition of the ancestral home of poet Kamini Roy at Basanda village, under Sadar upazila in Jhalakathi district.
The regional Bishwa Sahitya Kendra arranged the human chain that included political leaders, educationists, social activists, journalists and others.
Participants urged the authorities concerned to protect the birthplace of poet Kamini Roy and set up a museum at the venue, named after her.
Professor Bahauddin Golap, coordinator of the regional Bishwa Sahitya Kendra gave the opening speech.
President of Sangskritik Sangathan Samannay Parishad, Syed Dulal; President of Human Rights Jote, Habibur Rahman; CPB, Barisal unit President, AK Azad; General Secretary of Nagorik Parishad, Mintu Bose, freedom fighter MG Kabir and journalist Taufiq Maruf, among others, spoke on the occasion.
