5 powder milk brands won't be advertised until Jan 3

The High Court (HC) yesterday ruled that five powdered milk companies in question would not publish any advertisement for their brands until January 3, 2009.
The companies are Dano, Red Cow, Diploma, Nido and Anlene powder milk.
The HC order came upon submissions made by the counsels for the brands during the hearing on an application filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) seeking directions to the companies of powdered milk in question to stop advertisements for their brands.
They submitted before the court that they would not advertise for their brands until January 3, 2009, as the Supreme Court (SC) earlier extended the HC order lifting the ban on sale and display of their brands until the same date (January 3, 2009) and fixed the date for further order on the matters regarding the powdered milk.
The HC bench comprised of Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Justice Quamrul Siddiqui also kept in its record a prayer filed by the HRPB for taking legal actions against the powdered milk companies for continuing publicity of their brands through "false advertisements".
Advocate Manzill Murshid, counsel for HRPB, Sunday filed the applications with the HC for seeking directions to stop advertisements for what it says "melamine mixed powdered milk" and to take legal actions against the companies for continuing publicity of their brands through "false advertisements".
The petition said as per the Section 19(1) of the Pure Food Ordinance 1959, publication of false advertisements for food has been prohibited.
It said violating the existing rules, advertisements for the powdered milk in question were published in the media and publication of the advertisements is a punishable offence as per the Section 19(1) of the ordinance.
Advocate Mahmudul Islam, Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud and Barrister Tania Amir appeared for the powdered milk companies.
