Govt to make polls acceptable to all parties

Says Adviser Zillur

Education and Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman said yesterday that the government is working to create an election-friendly environment in the country so as to hold an election contested by all political parties.
Such an election will be acceptable to all, he said.
"We are already on the election-highway now and crossing one milestone after another. We are observing that everyone is getting involved in the process gradually," Zillur said while talking to the reporters yesterday.
He was at a reception organised by Dhaka Education Board to honour poor and meritorious students who achieved good results in this year's Higher Secondary Certificate exams (HSC).
The adviser said the responsibility of the government is creating an election-friendly environment in the country to make the general election acceptable to all.
He expressed hope that all political parties will participate in the process.
“We are emphasizing an election-friendly situation, there is no favouritism", the adviser said.
He expressed hope that discussions between all concerned will continue and Bangladesh will present a successful election before the world.
Earlier, the education board awarded seven educational institutions under the board for brilliant performances in the HSC exams for the last eight years.
The meritorious students were given a crest and Tk 5,000 each at the ceremony.
Additional secretary of the education ministry M Mozammel Haq Khan, Chairman of Dhaka Education Board Prof Mohammad Manirul Islam, principals of the award winning colleges, students and their guardians participated in the programme.
The awardee students are children of rickshaw-pullers, day-labourers and other ordinary people.
The seven institutes awarded at the event are the Notre Dame College, Rajuk Uttara Model College, Dhaka Residential Model College, Beersrestha Nur Mohammad Rifle Public School and College, Motijheel Ideal School and College, Viqarunnesa Noon School and College and Mymensingh Cantonment Public School and College.
