Onion, soya bean oil, mutton, egg prices up

Retail prices of onion, brand soya bean oil, mutton and eggs have started going up in the city markets.
The prices of imported onion increased by Tk 6-8 per kg while the local one by Tk 1-2 per kg.
Per kg Indian onion was sold at Tk 24-30 in retail markets yesterday. Before Eid, it was sold at Tk 18-22, market sources said.
Local onion was sold at Tk 30-36 in different retail markets in the city yesterday.
A wholesale onion dealer at Shyambazar in the city said before Eid the prices of onion went down as an excess amount of onion was imported then. But after Eid, he said, the importers did not import onion just to have a balance.
Though loose soya bean oil was witnessing a price fall by Tk 2 per litre, prices of brand soya bean oil increased by Tk 8 per 5 litres.
Anwar Hossain Rubel, owner of Al Amin Store at Karwan Bazar, said they had to buy a 5 litre can of Rupchanda at Tk 534.50 yesterday while it was sold at Tk 526.50 before Eid.
Mutton was sold at Tk 340-350 per kg yesterday, up from Tk 320 before Eid.
Sellers said mutton was in great demand due to Durga Puja and increase in number of wedding events.
The price of egg in retail markets increased yesterday. Eggs were selling for Tk 72-78 a dozen, up from Tk 65-72 before Eid, market sources said.
