21st anniversary of death of Comrade Farhad today


Today is the 21st death anniversary of Comrade Mohammad Farhad, former general secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), says a press release.
Comrade Farhad, also a former member of the parliament, died on this day in 1987 at Mosco at the age of 49.
To mark the day, CPB and Moni Singh-Farhad Smrity Trust have chalked out different programmes.
The Trust will place wreaths at his Banani grave at 7:00am while CPB will place wreaths at 11:30am.
A milad mahfil will be held at his wife's residence at 94/F, Azimpur Colony in the city after Asr prayers today.
His colleagues, political leaders, admirers and relatives have been requested to attend the programme.
A discussion will also be held at CPB office in the city at 5:00pm tomorrow.
Another commemorating meeting will be held at Moni Singh-Farhad Smrity Trust Bhaban in the city on October 17.
Born in Dinajpur in 1938, Farhad played a vital role during different movements in the country, including the Language Movement, Education Movement in 1962, Mass Upheaval of 1969, liberation war and the anti-autocratic movement.
During his 35-year long political life, he had suffered a lot for the sake of humanity. During the Pakistani regime and the reign of Zia and Ershad, he was put behind the bar on several occasions.
He was one of masterminds of the special guerrilla forces jointly formed by the Communist Party, NAP and Chhatra Union during the liberation war.
