NEC sends back draft 2nd PRSP for revision

The National Economic Council (NEC) yesterday sent back the draft of the second PRSP (Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper) for 2008-2011 for further revision of some issues, mainly concerning the present situation of gas supply and oil price.
Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmad, who chaired the meeting, asked the authorities concerned to submit their revision proposals by September 15 so that they could be accommodated in the final PRSP.
The Economic Division will scrutinise and accommodate the revisions in the final draft of the PRSP and place it again before the NEC for its approval, Planning Division Secretary Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury told a press briefing after the meeting.
He said the NEC members will forward new suggestions on various sectors and sub-sectors to update in accordance with the present economic situation at home and abroad.
After the NEC meeting, the chief adviser also chaired the meeting of Ecnec that approved 12 projects--four new and eight revised.
The projects are construction of jails in three districts (Tk 2 crore), construction of infrastructure in upazila headquarters (Tk 214 crore), upazila road development (Tk 510 crore), district town infrastructure (Tk 210 crore), Amin Bazar sanitary land field (Tk 64 crore), revised primary education stipend (Tk 4,753 crore), transparent ballot box (Tk 46 crore), Chars livelihood (Tk 667 crore), economic empowerment of the poorest (Tk 886 crore), Health, Nutrition and Population Sector Programme (HNPSP) (Tk 37384 crore), construction of regional passport offices in different districts (Tk 32 crore).
