Dumb woman finally sent to govt safe home

The district administration yesterday sent the dumb women, kept in the safe custody in Khagrachhari district jail from August 20 last year, to the safe home for women and children at Farhadabad in Chittagong.
Following the July 12 The Daily Star report titled 'Dumb woman in safe custody for a year', advocate Seema Zahur of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association submitted an appeal to the High Court on July 13 mentioning that the dumb women is not accused in any criminal case.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Mozammel Hossain and Justice AB Mahmudul Huq on July 16 issued a suo moto rule upon deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, chief judicial magistrate and jailor of Khagrachhari, asking them why detention of the dumb woman should not be declared illegal.
