Indian army chief leaves

Chief of Indian Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor left the city yesterday morning after completing his six-day visit to Bangladesh.
He was accompanied by his wife Kirti Kapoor and a four-member military delegation.
On behalf of the chief of army staff of Bangladesh, Army Quarter Master General Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury saw him off at the BAF Tarmac at Kurmitola Cantonment.
During his stay here, General Deepak placed wreath at the Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment and paid a courtesy call on President Iajuddin Ahmed and also met the chiefs of three services at their respective offices.
Besides, Kapoor inspected Bijoy Ketan in Dhaka Cantonment, National Museum, Defence Services Command and Staff College, National Defence College, liberation war memorial sites in Comilla, liberation war field, war cemetery and Bangladesh Military Academy at Bhatiary in Chittagong during his visit.
The Indian army chief's visit was aimed at improving bilateral relations and boosting military ties between the two neighbouring countries.
