Tributes to Prof Abdul Karim

Late Prof Abdul Karim, a former vice-chancellor of Chittagong University (CU), was a brilliant historian of the country.
This was stated by the speakers at a memorial meeting in observance of his first death anniversary in the city yesterday.
They said Prof Karim, also the founding chairman of CU history department, made some extraordinary contributions in the field of historical research that would help the history students for a long time.
The meeting, followed by the publication ceremony of a book titled 'Abdul Karim Commemoration Volume', was held at the Sufia Kamal auditorium of the National Museum.
The publication ceremony and the memorial meeting were organised jointly by Bangladesh History Association (BHA) and the publishers of the book Adorn Publication.
Speakers at the meeting said Prof Karim was a rare historian in the country who had a rich collection of research works.
He had written 10 books in English and 26 in Bengali apart from 200 research essays which were published in different local and international journals, they added.
BHA President Prof Syed Anwar Hossain presided over the meeting while Prof ABM Hossain unwrapped the cover of the book.
Prof Abdul Momin Chowdhury, Prof M Mofakhkahrul Islam, Mohammad Abdul Majid, Prof Imran Hossain, Prof AKM Shahjahan, Dr Sutapa Sinha and Dr Pronob Chattapadhya spoke at the meeting.
