Former OC sent to jail in wife murder case


Mizanur Rahman being taken to jail

A court in Satkhira yesterday rejected a bail prayer from former officer-in-charge Kazi Mizanur Rahman of Patkelghata police station and sent him to jail in the case for allegedly murdering his wife Sabiha Akhtar.
He appeared before the Satkhira court as per directive of High Court (HC). Earlier on May 21, the accused appeared before the HC for bail.
Judge Ashish Ranjan Das of the District and Session Judge's Court passed the order and fixed July 14 for more hearing of the bail prayer, court sources said.
Sabiha Akhtar, second wife of Kazi Mizanur Rahman, while being taken to Dhaka on March 6, succumbed to injuries allegedly caused by her husband two days earlier. The victim's mother Tayebunnesa filed a case with Motijhheel police station in Dhaka on March 9 as she was unable to come to Satkhira because of from age, Satkhira police sources said.
Motijhheel police station received the case on behalf of Patkelghata police station and sent it to Patkelghata to record the case, police sources said.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case sub-inspector Ziaur Rahman Zia of Patkelghata thana submitted charge sheet against Kazi Mizanur Rahman before the chief judicial magistrate's court here on May 9.
