'Implement noise pollution rules'

Speakers at a seminar yesterday underscored the need for implementing the Noise Pollution (control) Rules 2006 immediately to save the people from sound pollution.
Although government took the initiative to formulate a rule to control sound pollution in 2004, which was finalised in 2006 but there is no progress since then to implement the rules, they said.
Save Environment Movement organised the seminar at Dhaka Reporters' Unity.
Save Environment Movement Chairman Abu Naser Khan announced their three-month action plan against the sound pollution at the seminar, which includes, arranging rallies, forming human chain and increasing mass contacts to increase awareness and taking proper steps to discuss with the ministry or department concerned to implement the sound pollution control rules.
Their other plans include, arranging discussion with the owners of bus, mini-bus and trucks to avoid using hydraulic horns, distributing leaflets among the street hawkers, urging the private cars owners to refrain them from running their cars for a day in a week.
