One held for filing false kidnap case

Police personnel yesterday arrested a person from Bohaddarhat area in the port city on charge of filing a 'false' abduction case in order to harass a small trader.
The arrestee was identified as Hannan Sohel who hails from Gaibadna district.
Sources said Rokeya Begum, Sohel's mother, filed the case with the Kotwali Police Station on June 8 against trader Abbas Ali.
In the case, the complainant mentioned that Abbas and his three accomplices had kidnapped her son on June 4 from in front of KMC Market at Anderkilla and kept him at Abbas's house at Kuaish Nagar under Karnaphuli Police Station.
Two sub-inspectors (SIs) of Kotwali Police Station Md Mohsin and Shafiqul Islam, entrusted to investigate the case, began a massive hunt for Sohel. At one stage, they got information that Sohel was staying at a house of Tapas Kumar Deb, who has close terms with him, in Gaibanda.
Later, the SIs went to Gaibanda, detained Tapas on June 22 and produced him before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Chittagong where he disclosed the mystery of the false abduction and the whereabouts of Sohel.
According to Tapas's confessional statement, police raided a hideout yesterday at Bohaddarhat and arrested Sohel.
Quoting Sohel, police said he filed the false case to harass Abbas following a dispute of ownership over a shop at Bohaddarhat.
