NCC legally not valid
Says its chairman
The National Coordination Committee (NCC), formed to deal with serious crimes, will no longer handle corruption cases as the body has no legal validity, its chairman yesterday said.
"If necessary, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will deal with corruption allegations because the NCC has no legal validity," NCC Chairman and Home Adviser MA Matin told reporters at the secretariat.
He said the purpose of the NCC is to help the ACC. “We hand over cases to the Anti-Corruption Commission after studying them. The commission then files cases after weighing up the allegations," he added.
Matin said the NCC would no more publish any lists of corruption suspects.
Replying to a question, he said: "We have not compromised in any case. Allegations against individuals were brought on the basis on evidence.
The NCC handled 488 cases since its formation and 65 of those have so far been disposed of.
