Kushtia journo shown arrested in extortion case

A journalist of Channel-1here who was arrested by joint forces on Wednesday has been shown arrested in an extortion case.
The arrestee is Munshi Torikul, Kushtia correspondent of Channel-1.
Nazrul Islam, executive engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) here filed the case with Sadar police station against Torikul and Faruk Ahmed Pinu, Kushtia correspondent of ntv. He said the two went to his office introducing them 'influential journalists'on June 2. They demanded Tk 1 lakh from him and threatened to telecast news against him for non-payment of the money, the engineer alleged.
Joint forces, however, could not arrest the ntv correspondent. Police said they are looking for him.
Joint forces arrested Torikul from his Amlapara house in the town the same day of filing of the case.
He was later handed over to Sadar police.
A court sent to him to jail on production before court on the same day.
On contact, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar police station Md Babul Uddin Sardar said an investigation is going on and the charge sheet will be submitted as soon as possible.
