DU student among 6 killed in road accidents

At least six people, including a Dhaka University student, were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents in Faridpur, Magura and Narail yesterday and Wednesday night.
A correspondent from Faridpur reports: Four people, including a Dhaka University student, were killed and seven others injured yesterday in separate accidents on Dhaka- Khulna highway at Chandipur.
Two accidents occurred at the same place only in an span of half an hour.
The dead were identified as Mrittunjoy Mondol, 23, a third year student of Social Science department of Dhaka University. He was the son of Jibon Mondol of Basukhali village under Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari district.
Arif, 26, son of Abdul Ali Paek, of Jobsen village under Agayljhara thana in Barisal, Samir Saha, 42, son of Sudhir Kumar Saha of Teljuri village under Boalmari upazila of Rajbari and Rasel, 32, son of late Asraf Ali of Birangal village under Bakerganj Police Station of Barisal.
Police said the first accident took place at Chandipur at around 9:15am on Dhaka-Khulna highway when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus hit a private car, leaving four people dead on the spot, including its driver and Mrittunjoy.
Meanwhile, two buses collided head on at the same place at around 10:00am, leaving seven injured.
The injured are Shahid, 31, Ajad, 28, Tapan, 25, Shimon, 25, Rasheda, 20, Yad Ali, 49, and Abdul Kader, 40. They were rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH).
The bodies were sent to FMCH for autopsy.
Our Correspondent from Magura adds: A man was killed in a road accident near Parnanduali bus stand on Magura-Faridpur highway on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rashid, 61, of village Parnanduali in Magura Sadar upazila.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when a speeding bus from Dhaka hit him while he was crossing the road riding a bicycle at around 5:30pm. He succumbed to his injuries at around 10:00pm while he was undergoing treatment at Magura Sadar Hospital.
A Correspondent from Narail adds: A journalist was killed and another injured in a road accident on Jessore-Narail road near Charabhita Bazar at Bagharpara upazila in Jessore on Wednesday evening.
The dead was identified as Prodip Kundu, 33, son of Taru Kundu of Kurigram village and news editor of local daily Oshan and the injured Shaibal, 28, son of Shailan Das of Vadulidanga village in Narail pourasava.
Police said the accident occurred when a Narail-bound passenger bus from Jessore hit a motorbike at about 6:30pm in Charavita Bazar, leaving the riders Prodip Kundu dead on the spot and Shaibal seriously injured.
local people rushed the injured to Narail Sadar Hospital.
Police sent the body to the Jessore Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The police seized the bus, but the driver managed to escape.
