Relief Goods Misuse

ACC presses charge against Manzur Quader

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday submitted charge sheet against former BNP lawmaker Maj (retd) Manzur Quader and 11 others to a Sirajganj court in a case for misappropriating relief materials.
Sources said Manzur Quader, ex-lawmaker of Sirajganj-6 constituency, used corrugated iron (CI) sheets meant for government relief for construction of the Enayetpur cloth market and other private installations in Sirajganj through abuse of power during the rule of BNP-led coalition government.
In a drive, the joint forces seized 905 pieces of CI sheets at Enayetpur cloth market and filed a case with the Enayetpur Police Station against Manzur Quader and five others on February 25 last year.
The five accused are Enayetpur upazila BNP president Liakot Ali, Jubo Dal president Ataur Rahman, Swechchasebak Dal president Abdul Khalek, Shramik Dal secretary Abdur Razzak and engineer Niaz Ali.
Later, the case was handed over to the ACC.
Deputy Director of ACC's Sub-Divisional Office in Pabna Abdul Gaffar, also the investigation officer of the case, found the involvement of six other people in the misappropriation of relief materials in a probe and included their names in the charge sheet submitted to the Sirajganj Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.
The six accused are BNP activists Abu Taleb, Rebeka Sultana, Aleya Begum, Shahidul Islam, Abdul Matin and Janab Ali.
