CU hands over Tk 5 lakh to Mamun's family

Chittagong University (CU) authorities handed over a cheque for Tk 5 lakh to mother of Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, a CU student who died in a train accident on Thursday, at his village home in Patiya upazila in Chittagong yesterday.
Prof Dr Ranajit Kumar Chowdhury, chairman of Department of Accounting, handed over the cheque to his mother Mahmuda Khatun.
Teacher and students of the department, and local municipality chairman were present during the cheque handing over ceremony.
Mentionable, Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, a third year student of Accounting department, was crushed under the wheels of a CU-bound shuttle train at Sholoshahar Railway Station on Thursday morning.
Following his death, the angry students staged demonstration and put up five-point demands including compensation for Mamun's family.
Later, the CU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Badiul Alam assured the students of giving Tk 5 lakh to his family.
