Case shifted to Jessore special tribunal

The case for stealing rice from government-run Jessore food godown has been shifted to a special tribunal.
Jessore District and Sessions Judge Asgar Ali, who shifted the case to the special tribunal of Obaidus Sobhan on Sunday, also granted bail for three food officials and issued arrest warrant against two absconding accused in the case alleged rice black marketer Shyamol Saha and truck driver Shamsur Rahman Shamsu.
The next date of hearing has been fixed on May 4.
On April 19 last year joint forces seized nine tonnes of rice when it was being illegally shifted from Jessore Sadar LSD food godown and arrested three food officials from the spot. They also seized a truck and a motorbike. The motorbike was owned by Shyamol Kumar Saha, a alleged rice black marketer.
SI Golam Mostafa of Kotwali Police Station filed a case against seven people including the three food officials on April 20.
Later, the then officer-in-charge Abdul Kader Beg of Jessore Kotwali Police Station investigated the case and sent it to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regional office in Jessore.
ACC Assistant Director Monjur Morshed investigated the case and submitted a charge sheet against five people -- food godown official Rajgour, sub food inspector Jahangir Alam Sarkar, sub-assistant food inspector Selim Reza, Shyamol Saha and truck driver Shamsur Rahman Shamsu.
