Jalil’s condition deteriorates further

Hasina to be brought to hospital today

Ailing Awami League (AL) General Secretary Abdul Jalil's health condition deteriorated further at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore where the detained leader, now on parole, is under treatment for heart and kidney problems.
And detained AL President Sheikh Hasina will be brought to the city's Square Hospital again at 8:00 am today for further eye check-up , sources said.
The former prime minister is being brought back to the hospital amid efforts to send her to US for better treatment.
“God knows what will happen to Abdul Jalil as he has been suffering again from accumulation of fluid in his lungs and his kidney function deteriorated further,” said Prof Matiur Rahman, chief cardiologist at LabAid Hospital in the capital, where the ailing leader underwent treatment earlier.
Prof Matiur, whom Jalil talked to over phone yesterday, said overall condition of the leader is not good. At least two to three months would be needed for completion of his treatment.
Jalil is now staying at an apartment of the hospital under the supervision of Dr Akira Wu, a consultant nephrologist and physician.
Mount Elizabeth Hospital authorities will apply to the caretaker government for extension of parole for the leader, Matiur said.
Earlier on April 2, Jalil had applied to the government for a three-month extension of his parole but the government extended it by 10 days. And he has been asked to send to the home ministry all documents relating to his treatment.
On May 28 last year, the joint forces arrested him at his Mercantile Bank office in Motijheel.
