Amidst razzle dazzle, the grand finale of Lux Channel-i Superstar 2007 was held at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre on September 6. Jointly organised by Unilever Bangladesh and Channel-i, the highlight of the event was the crowning of the 'Superstar' for this year. The programme also featured performances by the finalists as well as popular actors and models.
This year the Lux Channel-i Superstar title went to Bidya Sinha Saha Mim. She was crowned by last year's Lux Channel-i Superstar Zakia Bari Momo. Mim was awarded a movie contract and a brand new car. Noted writer and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed and Naushad Karim Chowdhury, brands and development director, Unilever Bangladesh Ltd, presented the contract to Mim. Rakesh Mohan, chairman and managing director, Unilever Bangladesh Ltd handed over the keys to the car.
Sheikh Samroz Azmi Alvee was announced the first runner up. She received a cheque for Tk 5 lakh while the second runner up Farhana Shahreen Faria received a cheque for Tk 3 lakh.
The event -- divided into two sessions -- opened with a group performance by the ten finalists and musician Ayub Bachhu. Next the contestants took part in the catwalk round. A major attraction was the dance performance by filmstar Ferdous and last year's Lux Channel-i Superstar Momo. A performance by former Lux stars -- Kushum Sikdar, Tinni and Shanu -- accompanied with music by Fuad, received rounds of applause.
The session came to an end with the elimination of five finalists -- Urmi, Nafisa, Diba, Upoma and Amrin.
The second part of the programme began with a duet by Bappa Majumdar and Fahmida Nabi.
One of the most important part of the event was the Q&A session, where the finalists had to face the judges -- Asaduzzaman Noor, deputy managing director, Asiatic Marketing Communications Ltd; filmmaker and actor Tauquir Ahmed; Sara Zaker, director of Asiatic; former Lux star and actress, Subarna Mustafa; and Director (news) of Channel-i, Skykh Seraj.
The winners were selected through a combination of SMS votes and scores given by the judges.
