Prof Yunus receives King Aziz Medal

Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday received King Abdul Aziz Medal from the Saudi government.
Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz decorated Prof Yunus at the Saudi Royal Palace in Jeddah in recognition of his contributions toward confronting human development problems and introducing micro-credit system to combat poverty.
Prof Yunus flew to Jeddah on September 4 at the invitation of King Abdullah.
The Nobel laureate was received at the palace by the king and had discussions with him on international and regional issues with a particular focus on development initiatives for Muslim countries.
Yunus urged the Saudi king to introduce centers of academic excellence in Muslim countries as well as a Saudi scholarship fund under the king's patronage for students from Muslim countries to study at top universities around the world.
