Swindling by NGOs

Actions taken against officials for negligence: MA Malek

Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Brig Gen (retd) MA Malek yesterday said the government has taken stern actions against the government officials for the negligence of whom some local NGOs swindled huge money out of their depositors.
“Many non-government organisations are devotedly working for the socio-economic development of the poor people. But some vested ones in the name of NGOs are tarnishing their image. The government won't spare such individuals or organisations that are cheating the people,” warned Malek, also in-charge of Social Welfare and Post and Telecommunications ministries.
Malek was addressing a view exchange meeting at the DC office with officials of the local administration, civil society members and representatives of the NGOs registered with the Social Service Department (SSD).
He directed the SSD officials to properly monitor the registered NGOs whether they are working against their own organograms.
Meanwhile, the government, in the wake of the recent incidents of swindling by the NGOs, has dissolved one such runaway NGO and decided to cancel registrations of six others in Natore.
