100 Imams visit Lawachhara forest

About 100 Imams of mosques yesterday visited Lawachhera Reserve Forest in Kamalganj upazila to get first hand knowledge about bio-diversity so that they can create awareness among people about it later on.
Imam Training Centre, Sylhet organized the visit under Leaders of Influence (LOI) programme of Nishorgo Support Project which is financed by USAID.
Lawachhera is reach in forest resources including trees, floras and faunas and wild life. At present, forest areas in the country decreased rapidly. A controversy has been created on Seismic survey programme conducted by Chevron, a US oil and gas company at Lawachhera reserve forest. Different organizations formed human chains to protect Lawachhera.
Nishorgo Support Project officials received the Imams at the forest. Rayhanul Islam Chowdhury, Field Coordinator of the project and Modinul Ahsan, assistant conservator of Forest and member-secretary of Lawachhera forest Co-Management Committee supplied necessary information to them.
