Gulshan Hossain's solo exhibition at Russian Ambassador's residence

To mark the success of the official visit to the Russian Federation of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and to celebrate the day of Russian Diplomacy (February 10), the Ambassador of Russian Federation to Bangladesh, Alexander A. Nikolaev, arranged a two-day (February 10 and 11) solo art exhibition titled “Essence from Russia”, featuring the works of Bangladeshi painter Gulshan Hossain. This was Hossain's 14th solo exhibition. The exhibition was held at the ambassador's residence in Gulshan, Dhaka. A reception was also held at the venue.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dipu Moni, inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest on February 10. Ambassador of Russian Federation, diplomats of different countries, government high officials and media personalities attended the programme.
Gulshan Hossain won the first prize and 'Star of the Symposium' at the International Art Symposium 2012, held at Penza in Russia. The art symposium opened on August 20 and ended on September 13 last year, and was jointly organised by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and ISS (International Sculpture Symposium). Around 63 artists from all over the globe took part in the event. The participating countries included France, USA, Japan, China, Ireland, Spain, Australia, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Bulgaria, Italy, Belarus, Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, India, Russia and Bangladesh.
Hossain's themes are nature, nostalgia, agony, glee and beauty. The artist likes to portray nature and its mysterious aspects, and most of her works are forms and composition based, where vibrant colours are highlighted. She tries to expose the seasons and their characteristics in her works. She has always been fascinated by nature and the changes it goes through. She believes that each season has its own language, which is closely connected to the human mind and soul.
Gulshan Hossain obtained her MFA in Painting and Drawing from Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, UK. She has had 14 solo exhibitions in UK, Belgium, India and Bangladesh and has participated in many group exhibitions. At present, she is a lecturer at Department of Painting, University of Development Alternative (UODA), Dhaka.
