Kidnap of 2 GP Staff

Lawmen still clueless

Law enforcers are yet to trace the two Grameenphone employees who were kidnapped from Kutukchhari Bazar of Rangamati Friday evening.
Kidnappers yesterday demanded Tk 40 lakh from the telecommunication operator for the release of the abductees, said sources in intelligence agencies.
"As the area is dominated by the United People's Democratic Front, the duo might have been kidnapped by its members," said Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
"It's clear to all who the abductors are and which organisation is behind the incident. However, we can't say firmly," said an official of an intelligence agency.
Armed assailants abducted Md Musa, an engineer of the mobile phone company, and his driver Shamsuddin at gunpoint.
The engineer came from Chittagong on a pick-up van to inspect works of a GP tower being constructed near Boro Mohapuram Government Primary School adjacent to Kutukchhari Bazar.
Police and army personnel conducted raids in areas of Kutukchhari union yesterday but in vain.
"We will continue our efforts to rescue them," said the OC.
When contacted, Grameenphone refused to make any comment.
