Boithoki Gaan on second day of music fest


Today, “Bangla Gaaner Utsab Kolkata 2013” will feature boithoki songs rendered by artistes from both Bangladesh and West Bengal (India). The whole nightlong proceedings will be dedicated to the late singer extraordinaire Nilufar Yasmin. Artistes performing tonight at the ITC-Sangeet Research Academy premises in Tollygunge will include Farhana Rahman, Sandeep Bhattacharya, Sucheta Ganguly, Brajeswar Mukherjee, Suchishree Roy, Vidushi Kaushiki Desikan, Iffat Ara Dewan, Pandit Arun Bhaduri and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.
Talking to The Daily Star, Iffat Ara Dewan said she was waiting in eager anticipation to be a part of such a great festival, and she would perform out of her repertoire of Tagore songs, to present some old Bangla songs. She also expressed hopes that the music of Bangladesh will get a boost among the people of West Bengal through the festival.
Alongside the performances, four albums will also be released today: Nazrul Sangeet album “Abar Bhalobashar Shadh Jaage” by Nilufar Yasmin, Rabindra Sangeet album “Adhare Ekela” and a collection of old Bangla songs “Tumi Ami Dui Teer” by Iffat Ara Dewan, and an album of classic music by Sushree Roy titled “Reflections”.
