Pune keep Tamim

The players' auction for the sixth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will take place today, will not feature any Bangladeshi players. The competition, which begins in April, will however have Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal -- depending on their availability -- as they have been retained by their respective teams in the IPL.
Shakib was retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders last year. Tamim, on the other hand was released last November but re-signed for 12 months by the Pune Warriors in December. Tamim's inclusion was confirmed once his name was included in the initial squad, released in January this year. While Shakib played a prominent role in the Riders' winning campaign last year, Tamim didn't play any game for the Warriors in his maiden IPL season.
The auction will witness 101 players in the fray with each franchise allotted a salary cap of 12.5 million dollars. The cap is inclusive of the salaries of the players retained by the respective sides, which means that the franchises will have to take into consideration the total salary of the players in the team, or in other words the amount of money that they have already spent on the players in their side.
Due to the rule, the majority of the franchises contesting today won't be able to cross the 4-million-dollar mark. The Rajasthan Royals will have the highest spending capacity in the auctions. The Sun Risers Hyderabad have replaced the Deccan Chargers and will be making their IPL debut. The teams can have a total of 33 players with a maximum of 11 overseas players.
