SC stays HC order

The Supreme Court yesterday stayed till February 7 a High Court verdict that declared the amendment to the constitution of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) illegal.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after holding hearings on two separate petitions filed by the National Sports Council (NSC) and the BCB.
Cricket board's president Nazmul Hassan Papon and NSC secretary Shafique Anwar filed the petitions yesterday seeking a stay.
The chamber judge also asked the NSC and BCB to file separate leave-to-appeal petitions with the SC against the HC judgment by February 7.
Deputy Attorney General Ekramul Haque Tutul told The Daily Star yesterday that the amendment made by the NSC on November 29 last year would remain in force till February 7 following the SC stay order.
On Sunday, an HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Abdur Rob declared the amendment to the constitution of BCB illegal, saying that the NSC did not have the authority to do so.
