Youth 'commits suicide' in capital

A young man yesterday allegedly committed suicide after being implicated in a theft by a local arbitration in the capital's Kamrangir Char area.
Quoting family members, police said Saiful Islam, 20, an employee of a tailoring shop, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his room at Purba Rasulpur under Kamrangir Char Police Station.
Locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Saiful's maternal uncle Harun-or-Rashid said thieves broke into a local stationery shop on December 2.
On the next day, the shop keeper called a salish (arbitration) bringing an allegation that Saiful was involved in the theft. But the arbitration could not reach a decision, he said.
On December 20, another arbitration reached to verdict that Saiful was guilty and it fined him Tk 10,000, he added.
Quoting Saiful's mother, Harun said Saiful told her that he could no longer bear the disgrace as despite not being involved in the incident the arbitrations declared him a thief and fined him.
In a feeling insult, he also cried for long before his mother on Friday night, he added.
An unnatural death case was filed with the police station.
