Mobile court shuts fake medicine factory, shop

A mobile court yesterday sentenced a youth to two years' imprisonment for manufacturing fake medicines and selling those in markets in the capital's Mitford Hospital area and on the city's outskirts, Keraniganj.
The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate HM Anwar Pasha sealed a pharmacy in Mitford Hospital area and a fake medicine factory at Jinjira in Keraniganj, both owned by the 28-year-old convict, Mohammad Russel, 28.
The court also seized fake medicines and equipment used to manufacture those from the factory, housed in Russel's four-storey building, where he resides.
Anwar Pasha, quoting the convict, said, “The youth studied only up to class IX and had been running a pharmacy for the last 11 years.
“He started manufacturing fake medicines one year ago on the second floor of his building and used his pharmacy to sell those to traders across the country.”
Russel used to manufacture fakes of medicines which were expensive and high in demand. Besides, he used to pack low-priced medicines available in the market in packets of high-priced medicines to make higher profits, he said.
Domp tablets, Rocket-10, Hormoleed Byozine, S Gold, My Gold and Saston are some names of the fake medicines he used to manufacture, he added.
The magistrate said law enforcers were asked to file a case against Russel for running the illegal business.
