3 murdered, 2 shot in city

Three people including a minor girl were murdered and two others received bullet injuries in separate incidents within 14 hours in the city.
The deceased were identified as Sadia Akter, 3, Ahmed Tareq Newaz Guddu, 34, owner of a fashion designing house, and Humayun Kabir, 35, owner of a drug store.
Police quoting Shahinur Begum, stepmother of Sadia, said two criminals entered their house at Hazaribagh at around 11:00am yesterday and held a machete at her neck.
As Sadia screamed in fear, the criminals chopped her indiscriminately leaving her dead on the spot, police added.
But Sadia's father Abdul Karim, an assistant accounts officer of AB Bank of Motijheel branch, alleged that his wife had murdered Sadia in a planned way with the help of the criminals.
He said after the death of Sadia's mother, he got married with
Shahinur two years ago.
They often quarrelled over Sadia and last night also they quarrelled, he added.
Police sent the body to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for autopsy.
Liakat Ali, sub-inspector of Hazaribagh Police Station, told The Daily Star that they recovered Shahinur's blood stained clothes from the bathroom.
In another incident, Shahbagh police recovered the body of Guddu lying on the road near Palashi area in the early hours and rushed it to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Family members said Guddu had told them over phone that he was returning home at Gulshan after finishing his work at his fashion designing shop at Purana Paltan at around 11:00pm on Sunday night. But he did not return.
Morgue sources said Guddu was strangled.
Meanwhile, a group of four to five armed criminals opened fired at Humayun Medical Hall at Nama Shyampur indiscriminately at around 9:00pm on Sunday and left three people Humayun Kabir, shop owner, Bellal Hossain, 11, employee of the shop, and Mozammel Haque, 35, a representative of a pharmaceutical company, injured.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared Humayun dead.
Locals said some criminals have been demanding toll from the owner of the drug store for the last couple of days.
