Int'l Migrants Day observed in Ctg

The “International Migrants Day-2012” was observed with various programmes in Chittagong city yesterday.
The day-long progarmme started with a colourful procession that paraded from Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh to Shilpakala Academy in the port city.
Later, a discussion was held at the Shilpakala Academy. With Chittagong District Employment and Manpower Office assistant director Jahirul Alam in the chair, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chittagong Abdul Mannan addressed, as chief guest, the discussion.
Chittagong University Law department teacher Prof Zakir Hossain, and Superintendent of Police in Chittagong AKM Hafiz Akhter, among others, spoke in the programme.
Chittagong DC Mannan said workers who go abroad under the management of government do not face any difficulty; but those who go with the help of non-government organisations face many difficulties, even sometimes land up in jail.
If anybody faces any problem after going abroad under the management of the government, it will take all kinds of responsibilities for them, he said.
Later, prizes were distributed in different categories.
Babul Akhter received an award in category of successful expatriate, while Probasi Kalyan Bank in the category of providing loan service to expatriates; Probasi Kolyan Desk for effective contribution in the sector; TIB Recruiting Agency for sending skilled persons to overseas; Air Arabia for expatriates' commuting service; NGO YPSA for raising awareness among expatriates and Islami Bank Bangladesh for receiving remittance.
