Rokia Rahman: MCCI's new president


Rokia Afzal Rahman has been elected president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Dhaka, the chamber said in a statement yesterday.
A leading woman entrepreneur of the country and a former adviser to the caretaker government, Rokia was elected president of the MCCI at the first meeting of the chamber's new committee yesterday.
She is the chairman of Arlinks Ltd and has investments in RR Cold Storage Ltd, Aris Holdings Ltd, Imaan Cold Storage Ltd, Mediaworld Ltd, MIDAS Financing Ltd, Mediastar Ltd and Reliance Insurance Ltd.
Rokia is also involved in social organisations like Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs, Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, Manusher Jonno Foundation, and Bangladesh Freedom Foundation.
Kamran T Rahman, managing director of Pubali Jute Mills Ltd, was elected vice president of the MCCI.
Kamran, who has investments in the tea sector, is the regional vice president of International Organisation of Employers and a member of the governing body of International Labour Organisation.
He is also a former president of Bangladesh Employers' Federation.
