Jubo league men snatch fellow from police

Some 20 pro-Awami League Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League activists snatched an arrestee of a vandalism case from police at Tilaghar area in Sylhet city on Thursday, said police.
Sylhet's compressed natural gas and petrol stations owners are scheduled to resume their indefinite strike from 6:00am today as none of the main accused in the case were arrested till yesterday evening, said the stations' owners' association.
The case was filed by the managing director of Surma Autocare CNG Filling Station in Sylhet city's Shibganj area, Abdul Hasib Bhuyian, with Shah Poran Police Station on September 5.
In the case statement, the plaintiff said Sylhet district BCL Vice-President Salim Ahmed and 13 others attacked his staff and vandalised his station that night after he denied paying a Tk 5 lakh extortion.
Thursday's snatching took place around 8:00pm when sub-inspectors Abdul Motaleb, Morshed and Jahangir and some nine policemen were returning to the police station with the arrestee, Jubo League activist Abdul Gaffar, after arresting him from Tilaghar area.
Police could not trace Abdul or any of the attackers till yesterday evening. However two suspects of the case were arrested yesterday and sent to the judicial magistrate's court with a five-day remand prayer, said the police station Officer-in-Charge Liakat Ali.
The indefinite strike was called on September 11 and suspended for the next three days as the district officials, at a meeting in the deputy commissioner's office in presence of Mayor Badaruddin Ahmed Kamran, assured of arresting the vandals.
